Phulari turns 3!

Phulari turns 3!

Remember the last you bumped into someone wearing the same outfit? Remember how you would want to so badly attend a handloom exhibition to treat yourself with an exclusive handcrafted product, well but you missed it? Or the time you saw a celebrity wearing that handmade kurta and were crushing on it, but wouldn’t dream of getting something similar in a modest budget.

May of us have the desire to stand out, wear something unique and feel loved and confident when you do so. Not that we don't like any high street brands, and definitely not that reasonably priced catalogue clothing isn’t good. But we do believe that handcrafted clothing makes one feel special, and the fact that we’re helping people earn a livelihood and keeping traditional arts alive has a completely different sense of accomplishment. Isn’t it?

Three years ago, on the 26th of January 2018, Phulari was born. A dream that was brought to life to help people with their shopping dilemma. Yes, you read it correctly. But how? Phulari is an online platform consisting of various products carefully picked from across India, handcrafted by rural artisans or small businesses. The idea was to give shoppers a personalised touch, thereby making their experience blissful and also preserving India's rich heritage of various communities.

As every other start-up, when we started we faced many challenges, onboarding suppliers and training them, establishing the product line and trying to cater to customer requirements, everything was a learning curve. What many don't know is that Phulari.com initially offered only Dupattas and Stoles, but eventually with a lot of support and customer requests, we diversified and now have multiple products and take special customization requests. Serving each one of you has been a pleasure and a learning experience. Every appreciation we received, just made us stronger and helped us move ahead.

When the pandemic hit, the entire world went on a standstill, and we face the repercussions till date. The handicrafts sector is extremely disorganised, and the amount of time spent on creating hand-made products is the primary factor for it and stems from the people (karigars) who do the work and their availability. Karigars either leave or switch jobs due to the inconsistent income, and during the pandemic many had to resort to other jobs to make a living. Hence, balancing the demand and supply has been overzealous. Phulari helps them focus on what they do the best, i.e. creating the amter products, while we take care of bringing them to the customers and catering to their needs. We hope someday, we can make this process seamless.

Today, we at Phulari are proud to see the growth and love received by numerous people who believe in our vision. In 3 years, we have come a long way and are proud of ourselves. Today, while browsing through the website, you can find exquisite salwar suit fabrics, kurti fabric, bottom wear, half-saree, and juttis. Thanks to our customers, partners, colleagues, family and friends for constantly supporting us. We celebrated the completion of three years in business in an exciting way, yet again to delight you all. During this journey, we have built wonderful relationships, met amazing people and are looking forward to strengthening and increasing them.
